Using up the carbon budget

To avoid reaching global temperature levels such as 1.5°C there is a limited amount of carbon dioxide we can emit into the atmosphere. We are rapidly using up this ‘carbon budget’, mainly by burning fossil fuels and deforestation.

This carbon budget uses data from the latest IPCC 6th Assessment Report, and assumes a 50% chance of global temperature staying within 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. For higher likelihoods, slices of the circle get removed (3.5% for a 67% chance & 7% for a 83% chance).
